A fun, creative, practical approach to boost your Vitamin L

This course is going to take place over five weeks. I run it over Zoom, so you will be joining from the comfort and safety of your own home. And I only accept a limited number of students, so that we create a group that is safe, and intimate.

During those five weeks, I will be guiding you to create a piece of art or craft that represents self-love for you, at this moment in time. So, this is not about “doing it right” or “being perfect” or creating a masterpiece. This is an exploration in which you will come to understand the key areas in which you are blocking yourself from experiencing self-love. And you will learn – and experience how it feels – to begin overcoming them.

The skills and tools you learn during these five weeks are things that you will take out into your wider world. And yes, self-love will then become a regular, natural practice for you… Opening your whole life to greater joy, flow, and allowing you to fulfil your true potential.

I am a bead artist by training and background, so that is the medium to which I turn when I wish to create. This piece is one expression of my personal exploration of self-love. It uses colours, textures and symbols that speak to me. And I now keep it on display as a very practical reminder of self-love.

During the course, you will be creating something that reflects you, your creative media, your colours, textures, shapes, design….

…and the more that idea terrifies you, the more benefits you are going to gain from taking this course!

Practical Details about the Course

This five-week course comprises of six 2-hour sessions conducted over Zoom. I am running two groups, at different times, in order to accommodate different time zones.

One group will run every Wednesday, from 12pm until 2pm (UK timezone). That’s 7am-9am EST, or 4am-6am Pacific time. The dates for this course are: 28th February, 6th March, 13th March, 20th March, 21st March, 27th March, 3rd April 2024.

The other group will run every Thursday from 6.30pm until 8.30pm (UK timezone). So, that’s 1.30pm-3.30pm EST, or 10.30am until 12.30pm Pacific time. The dates for that course are: 29th February, 7th March, 14th March, 21st March, 28th March, 4th April 2024.

I will be asking you to join either one group OR the other, but if you have to miss a week in your group, there is potential for you to join the other group for that week, if you wish.

You will get a recording of the “teaching” portions of each session, but I will not be recording the discussion. So, this is designed to be something that you attend live.

In session 1, we will set up your project: I will share some tips for making the process of design and coming up with an idea, feel effortless.

In sessions 2-4, we will be working together on our personal projects, ironing out issues, and working through the inevitable emotional challenges that arise. (Things like, this isn’t “good enough” or disappointment because it’s not turning out the way you planned. Perhaps feeling that other people’s work is “better”)

In session 6, we will be celebrating out achievements. That’s both the finished project, and the self-love blocks that we overcame to reach that stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need any special skills or equipment to take this course?

No. You can create in any media you desire, and you can create whatever you wish. It could be as simple as creating a collage using images you have printed from the web, and adding in text or doodles with whatever drawing materials you have to hand. Or, if you already practice a craft or art, you can use the materials and skills you have from that.

You don’t have to create an image. You might wish to create something wearable (e.g., jewellery). Or perhaps some sort of ornament…or anything else that you can imagine.

Will you be learning any art or craft techniques?

No. In my “other” career, as a bead artist, I do teach specific beading projects and techniques. If you’re interested in learning how to bead, please visit https://beadflowers.co.uk. For this course, the focus will be on guiding you to explore your own creativity.

But, I do have experience across a wide range of crafts and have spent my life “making things” in various media. So I will be able to help and advise with practical questions, if any difficulties should arise with your project. And, if you are working on a beading project, of course I’ll be happy to share that knowledge, or recommend places where you can find the answers you need.

What will you be learning?

I will guide you through the process of creating a piece of art. Starting with how to decide what you’re going to do, and then dealing with the practicalities of actually getting it completed. That aspect will take up the first 30 minutes of each session.

During the next 30 minutes, I will be sharing my understanding of what is blocking your ability to access self-love, and how to overcome those blocks. I am also a certified bio-energetic health coach, and I have studied with the National Institute of the Clinical Application of Behavioural Medicine (NICABM), and also studied NLP and Life Coaching. More than that, I have practical, lived experience…I spent twenty years living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and developing self-love was a critical stepping stone in my recovery. During the remaining hour, we will all be working together on our respective creative projects and talking. So, you might be asking about aspects of your creative process, or you might have questions that relate to the information about self-love.

I will be sharing tools and practices you can use daily, or as needed, to help you work through your personal challenges. BUT this course is NOT a formal therapy course. It is not intended to diagnose or treat any physical or mental health condition. If you need formal diagnosis or treatment, you should be consulting a licensed professional.

How does the creative process relate to self-love?

This is a question that many people have asked me in the past. To pull in some of the knowledge I gained from my studies in bioenergetic health, self-love is actually a field of Energy. It is available to all of us at all times. And accessing it does (literally) boost your energy levels, translating through to your physical body. This links in to the scientific studies into the health benefits.

Any field of Energy is designed to be in constant flow. Unfortunately, that flow can end up getting blocked when the energy particles meet with some kind of resistance. Put into everyday English, that resistance takes many forms, including:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Perfectionism
  • Comparing yourself with others
  • Past traumas
  • Negative self-talk
  • Fear of rejection
  • The need to receive external validation
  • Lack of boundaries
  • Neglecting self-care
  • Guilt and shame

The ways in which a creative project can trigger us

Almost every single one of those issues can be triggered during the creative process. For example, feeling your work isn’t as good as other people’s – comparison, perfectionism, negative self-talk. Getting obsessed with the project and forgetting to take breaks – lack of self care. Not carving out the time to enjoy your creative flow – lack of boundaries. Everyone will experience different triggers, and to different degrees, in this context.

BUT experiencing them in relation to a craft project, creates a much lower “charge” and feels far safer and less confronting, than experiencing them in normal everyday relationships. So, this is an opportunity to just dip your toe in the waters of discomfort, and then use some support and tools to bring yourself safely through that discomfort. As you begin to get used to doing that in a “low risk” situation, you then gain the skills and self-confidence to take that out into “higher risk” real life situations.

Don’t worry – this isn’t going to be an uncomfortable experience! This course is designed with a focus on safety and fun, and creating connection and love within the group taking part.

Descend back to the ground, and you may find yourself on a cloudy, dreary day, perhaps struggling to remember that the sunshine and blue skies still exist.

Yet, that sunshine has the power and ability to burn through all the clouds, creating warmth and comfort for you on the ground. This is the process you will be experiencing as you boost your vitamin L. In other words, break through the clouds (emotional blocks) that sit between you and your personal sunshine.

This is another very real question that I like to address. It’s one thing to attend a free course or webinar…I mean, you’ve got nothing to lose except your time. But quite another to invest money in yourself…

Now, I want you to imagine your life five years from now, with an increased ability to experience self-love. How might that impact your health? What about your relationships? What would it feel like to experience more peace and joy every day? Just feel into that possibility for a moment.

Which would you prefer to be experiencing five years from now?

You might also ask whether or not this course can deliver on that possibility. Well, here’s the interesting fact: this course isn’t going to deliver anything…except what you create for yourself. If you are committed to experiencing more self-love, then yes, this course will deliver in spades!
